AFN Berlin isn't forgotten

If you want to have the old AFN Berlin feeling, you can listen AFN Bavaria on the AFN Europe app or you visit this AFN memorial.

But it isn't located on Saargemünder Strasse. I guess, this would be the place, where you would search for it. But opposite the Clay HQ's site gate you will face a big disappointment. There are nice mansions only.

This street has changed so much over the last decades and I have no idea about the people who live here. Do they know what there was before? Some steps from here is the subway station at the Harneck House. Let's make a two stations ride from here to Podbielskiallee and this ride makes the difference. Because at 28 Podbielskiallee was the first AFN studio from 1945 until 1976.

It's a very beautiful house from the 1930s and eight high end condos are in it today. Right here AFN Berlin started broadcasting after World War 2. There is a report from 1947 on YouTube about it's first two years. Don't miss it out! And you'll be back in Berlin on one day, visit this place.

At first you'll see the red board only. Go closer and read on it. You don't need to know German for recognize some names. The names of the DJs or hosts of the most popular shows will bring up the memories into your mind.

I enjoyed this tour and I wish that you'll do it too on your next trip to Berlin.

P.S. In the meantime enjoy your coffee in your own AFN mug.
